Problem:
Symmetricom implemented Oracle® Applications as their ERP solution and found itself with extremely limited access to the information they needed for ad hoc and operational reporting. The company's lean IT department attempted to write reports from the Oracle base tables, but this became time consuming and ultimately too expensive.

Looking for a method to reduce costs, Symmetricom studied multiple reporting solutions and decided to purchase Noetix Platform with NoetixViews® for Oracle Financials, Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, and Manufacturing. With Noetix, the IT department was able to quickly create a series of customized business views to meet the reporting needs of 90 percent of Symmetricom's approximately 40 end users. In addition, users were then able to securely log in to the system, search for relevant data and other related information, and create their own reports.

Solution:
Today, Symmetricom's end users leverage Noetix to run an average of 400 daily reports, spanning several different Oracle modules. Most end users create their own reports and contact the two-person IT team only if they require assistance with a more complex query. Noetix provides extra flexibility, enabling end users to add columns and join different views together on an ad hoc basis. More than 90 percent of the business views in use today are custom developed using NoetixViews.

"Noetix has been very helpful by providing quick report-writing capabilities which sped up the technical effort we had originally thought we'd need for the Oracle implementation," said Joseph Thakkolkaran, manager of enterprise applications. "Noetix also significantly decreased the company's overall dependence on my team to get their data out of Oracle."

Result:
Ultimately, Noetix saved Symmetricom time and resources. Symmetricom is in the process of evaluating the strategic impact that Noetix has had on the organization in order to better understand how access to timely information improves business decisions.
